Entry points 

Shimshal can be reached from Islamabad by plane to Gilgit city or else by road along the Karakoram Highway to Hunza. Another way is by road from Tashkurgan, China on the Karakoram Highway through Khunjerab National Park and the Old Silk Route to Passu valley.

Tour from Gilgit Airport to get to the Trek start at Hopar

On your drive/tour from Gilgit to Karimabad, Hunza and onto Passu (along the KKH and a section of the ancient Silk Road) and then to Hopar you will enjoy some of the most outstanding scenery in Northern Pakistan. The Gilgit river and terraces of farmland will be beside you as you drive north. You will stop and enjoy the views of the junction of the Western edge of the Himalayas with the Karakoram and the Hindu Kush mountain ranges. You will stop at the base of Rakaposhi (7,788m) and gaze up the Ghulmet Glacier at the highest unbroken slope on earth 5,838m above you. You will explore beautiful Karimabad with its delicious apricots (in the right season) and the famous Baltit Fort. The ancient roadside sacred rocks at Haldeikish and the drive through picturesque villages and farmland and along the Hunza river.

 

 

About this Trek

Rash Phari is a local name means “sparking Lake”, also known as Rash Lake, located in Nagar Valley of Gilgit-Baltistan. It is a high alpine lake located at the base of Rash Peak (5,098m), a peak for the beginners, you can begin your climbing experience from this mountain and enjoy spectacular views from all sides. Rash Phari is one of the most attractive treks, especially for those who want to have a first time trekking experience with a lifelong thrill.  You can walk on glaciers, through villages and observe the life of those living at the foot of mighty glaciers. Trek along the irrigated terraced fields with the stunning views of the mighty Karakoram mountains from the summit of Rash Peak 5,098m. The trek starts from Hopar (2,790m), a marvelous valley with green fields and fruit orchards. It provides the best views of Spantik (7,027m), Malubiting (7,458m), Miar   Peak (6,824m), Phuparash Peak (6,574m) and Ultar Sar (7,388m) and the distant glimpse of of the world second highest peak K2 on a fine day.  It is the junction of two famous glaciers of Barpu and Bualtar.
